what qualifications do you need to become a top class Photographer?

my 11 year old son wants to do this when he leaves school is there anything i can do now that will help him achieve this

Buy him some junior books on Photography so he can learn how to see a good composition through the lens, learn about light and shade and what makes a good subject.

Then buy him a small digital camera to start off with – hopefully you will be able to download all his pictures to your PC and he can learn to study them, discard those he doesn’t like and make a photographic filing cabinet on CD.

Kids are so lucky these days, we paid a fortune for 12 exp films and then another fortune to have them developed and that was with a Kodak Bantom Coloursnap camera I bought second hand in 1958!

Perhaps he could join a junior photographic club, and you could think about buying him a subscription to a photographic magazine. Nothing like seeing good stuff and information about competitions and exhibitions.
